An Earthly Mother
Tosha Hansen
Into and out of the earth I feel an ebb and flow,
Each contraction takes me deeper to where I need to go.
I feel the power of each mother that has walked this path before.
There is no return now, please, I need your help even more.
A connection to heaven has never been this strong,
For this child, the earth has waited oh, so long.
They are struggling now to open the gate between,
And I the gatekeeper must facilitate this dream.
To be a mother, my wish is finally here.
The joy, the peace, the happiness, the wetness of each tear.
And many tears to come as I hold my baby tight,
To love this deeply requires a heavenly light.
Teaching must simple, example must be right,
Wisdom with each footstep, love each day and night.
Mothers suffer on the earth but angels rejoice above,
There is nothing so noble than to give that much love.
The child is so beautiful, pure and complete,
Completion, wholeness, purity I hope to always be.

“How do you spell Mother? I know this very special person who knows how to spell this word and has lived the very meaning of this word. For over 30 dedicated years, Pam has worked with children of all ages in helping them discover the world of reading, social studies and history. A devoted mother as well, it was her inspiration that led her two daughters to successful careers of their own.
It takes a special and patient person to take time to teach a child to read or to guide a young mind to discover the interesting and wonderful world that is out there. It may sound a bit cliché but teaching has been Pam’s calling and dream. She has been an exceptional teacher, wife, friend and mother to children for many years.
Times are changing and recently Pam retired from the teaching profession. She now has the time to truly escape completely and enjoy being a grandmother now too! After over 30 years of being a mother figure to children, she has earned the right to some peace and quiet. Free from runny noses and constant chatter. Free from paperwork, grading papers and answering a question ten times in row. Free to explore the destinations she has taught many children about and dreamed about as well. It is time she takes a recess of her own to truly enjoy simply being a mom. The person my sister and I have loved since the day we were born.
Thank you mom for touching the lives of so many children and for making me who I am today.

This mother's Day is extremely important to me. In January of this year I was diagnosed with Acute Myleogenous Leukemia. I am 31 years old, with 3 children (11, 9, and 4). I have had to rely on my husband, children, and my mother again in order to recuperate. As I am recuperating, just ending chemotherapy, my mother and I have been studying every healing practice we can get our hands on. This has inevitably led me to how I treat my own body is inherently linked with how I treat our planet. I have been blessed with a future to look forward to, and a new responsibility. I am now looking forward to teaching my children how to live healthy. How to love healthy. How to enjoy each precious moment that God allows us to soak in the sun's rays, to feel the breeze, to taste a locally produced fruit, and to feel good about their accountability on this earth.

As a mom I have always thought my job was to be a teacher. We teach our children to walk and eat and talk, but we also want to teach our children to be better than we are. Better people, better eaters, more compassionate, more loving, better learners. We want our children to be everything we aren't. So in the process of trying to teach my child all of these things I have discovered that I am the student and he is the teacher. He has taught me more about myself and about life than I will able be able to teach him in my lifetime. He has taught me patience, he has shown me true spirituality, he has reminded me of the ever present wonders all around me and he has also taught me just how important our world is as a whole. I will admit that I didn't have global thinking before I became a mother. I was doing things to better myself, our society, sometimes the planet and help my karma but I never really had the global vision. Now that I have a child I feel an urgency to make change and encourage others to do so. I want my son as well as all of the world's children to continue to have a home. I want no child to live impoverished and unloved. I want children to live free playful lives without disease cause by our society and our habits. Mostly I want all children to be the teachers they were meant to be and for the parents and adults around them to learn the lessons they so eliquently and effortlessly teach us. Children are gifts in more ways that we can imagine and being a mother is the best gift I could be given.
Being a Mom...

What a responsibility - what a joy
Now at 73 the rewards of being a mother
Flood my heart and mind
Three children with two fathers they accepted
A lifetime of great and sometimes sad; memories
Now looking both ways...forward and back
I realize every challenge was met with love
(and continues to be).
Love is such a delight when real, and
Is the wondrous glue that makes "family"
and creates a very happy mother - grandmother
Great-grandmother; ME!

I always wonder how she does it.
Being sick and a single mother has got to take a toll on her.
Maybe it’s because she’s strong.
Maybe it’s because she's independent.
Maybe it’s because she is filled with a love for us that consumes her being.
Whatever it is, I am glad.
Because without her, I wouldn’t be me.
I wouldn’t have grown into a strong woman.
I wouldn’t be independent.
And finally, I wouldn’t have this love for her that consumes my being.
GRATEFUL

My Mama came to this country 2 years before I was born and brought with her what she knew about feeding her family. She was a little woman 4'11" or less and a fiery spirit. I can remember when I begged my Mama to buy "Wonder Bread". She said no that is only for rich people. So she continued to bake her whole grain bread and cook in a healthy manner. Today I am 57 years old and people think I'm 40 or even sometimes younger. I take no medications and can keep up with an 18 year old. My Mama went home to be with Jesus 5 years ago, after passing due to toxic drugs "antibiotics".. I am into nutrition and organics and I have my Mama to thank for it, and this year on my birthday, the nurses at the doctors office called to sing me happy birthday and wondered it had been years since they saw me. THANK YOU MAMA...

Her heart is full of love for her family, friends and the world.
She loves life with a passion and encourages others to embrace more spiritual practices to discover a more abundant life.
Life for her is a wonderful journey that only brings lessons of experiences for the improvement of self.
I have learned from my mother to always have a strong faith in God and never doubt your own abilities.
My Mother has been the rock in our family and continues to keep us with a strong sense faith and love.
One of my mother's favorite quotes: "What comes from the heart speaks to the heart".
On this Mother's Day I'm honored to say her words have been music to my ears for a very long time.

I am the mother of three grown children. The seed of sustainable living practices was sown during their preteen years when our family initiated an unusual holiday project. They and four friends raised enough money in six weeks to purchase twelve acres in the Children’s Rainforest in Costa Rica to preserve it for the future. Since that time, they have taken their passion for “green” to a whole new level, and have reminded their parents how every choice in purchasing and recycling affects our future environment and quality of life. Mothers, please plant seeds! Our children are fertile ground.
